Crow’s Pass is a proposed community initiative in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, started by Karen Hall (Founder) and Barbara (Co-founder). We care about your privacy and follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What we collect and why
- Newsletter: your email address, so we can send about one email a month. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Register Your Land form: your name, email, phone (optional), Nova Scotia PID, community or location, approximate acreage, what you’re open to, your notes and any photos you upload. We use this only to see whether the land might suit Crow’s Pass and to contact you about it. We may look up the PID in public Nova Scotia property records. Please don’t upload photos that show people.
- Emails you send us (interest, stories, Crowscope requests): only to reply and keep you posted.
- Shop orders (when the shop opens): name, shipping address, email and order details, to fill your order. Payments are handled by our payment processor; we never see your full card number.
- Website statistics: we use Jetpack Stats (by Automattic) to count visits and see which pages are read. You can choose which cookies to allow in our cookie banner.
Who sees it
Only the Crow’s Pass founders. Land submissions are never shown on this website. We don’t sell or rent personal information. We use service providers to run the site: our web host, WordPress and Jetpack (Stats and Subscriptions) by Automattic, our email provider and, when the shop opens, a payment processor. Some of them store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local law.
How long we keep it
- Land submissions and photos: up to 2 years after our last contact with you, or sooner if you ask us to delete them.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Shop orders: as long as tax law requires (generally 6 years).
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or withdraw your consent, at any time by emailing karen@crowspass.com. We’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Keeping it safe
We use reasonable safeguards, including password-protected accounts and keeping submissions private.
