Living close by can make everyday life safer, richer and less lonely, without turning neighbours into caregivers.
How it works
- Neighbourhood connection: familiar faces, informal check-ins, shared meals.
- Resident-led governance: residents shape the agreements, priorities and shared responsibilities.
- Mutual contribution: time, knowledge or skills, offered by choice, never as unpaid care.
- Common house: an easy place to gather; everyone keeps her private home.
- Gardens and outdoor life: shared gardens and accessible paths.
- Local connection: staying tied to Cape Breton services, transport, organizations and neighbours.
Giving back
Residents could mentor, tutor, lead workshops, partner with local nonprofits, schools and libraries, and share skills like gardening, technology, cooking and bookkeeping. Participation is always voluntary and never a condition of residency.
What we're building toward
The first community is for women 55+, because that's where the need is greatest in Cape Breton right now. We're not banning anyone; we're starting where the need is greatest. The plan grows from there:
- A men's community, because men are lonely too
- Multigenerational families, so grandkids always know where to find their grandparents
- Neurodivergent residents and families
- A common house at the centre, where everyone's welcome
A ripple that lifts everyone
Homes freed up in town for young families. Less pressure on rents and health care. New life for rural Cape Breton.
Every career, one murder
The women and men of Crow's Pass come from every walk of life: nurses, teachers, accountants, tradespeople, farmers, fishers, the military, and the ones who raised families and held whole households together. Every crow brings something to the table.
A Veterans' Roost: a circle for the women and men who served, to share stories, support each other, and find their murder again.
Who it's for
Women 55+ who value independence and want a dependable network nearby. Woman-built. Feminine energy first, and any man who's ready and shares the values.
Residency criteria, costs, applications and legal arrangements have not been set yet. Registering interest helps us understand the need; it isn't an application or a guarantee of housing.
